Film development
In the darkroom, we develop all films by hand – from 35mm film to sheet film. If desired, we can push or pull an underexposed or overexposed film in order to subsequently influence the contrast and density of the exposed film during development. This technique allows the correction of «wrongly» exposed films, but also the artistically intended manipulation of images.
The contact print is used for film review and is made as a direct positive from the film using the contact process under the enlarger. Especially for archiving, contact prints offer a good possibility to keep track of the photographic work. They are also helpful for making an initial pre-selection of images.
Kodak’s LVT process allows high-resolution digital data from a camera or scan to be exposed onto classic analog Ilford FP4+ film (35mm, 4×5′, 8×10′), not to be confused with the transfer of digitally produced negatives onto film using the inkjet process. LVT negatives show no pixels, halftone lines or stochastic patterns, but the film grain and all the characteristics of classic black and white film. Possible applications:
- Reproduction of digital data in analog process
- Digital correction or complex manipulation of negatives
- Digitization of negatives (for archives, for example)
- Copying and preparation of negatives for further analog processing
